The One Minute Commute Release – May 25th

May 10, 2010

The One Minute Commute eBook will be released on May 25, 2010. The entire book will be available on this blog and you’ll get a new section every Tuesday and Thursday for about one year. When it’s all done I’ll publish the entire book as a free PDF.

The One Minute Commute presents an easy-to-understand framework for demonstrating value as a remote worker and part of a team and provides concrete advice for telecommuters. The book examines:

  • How to ensure management and team members recognize telecommuters’ contributions and include them in important project decisions
  • How to transition from a current job into a remote job
  • Lessons from top recruiters and social media experts on how to find the remote job of your dreams

The book also teaches telecommuters how to use common communication technologies to build strong remote connections with their teams. It also provides step-by-step instructions for communicating effectively through conference calls, instant messages, and email and how to share knowledge via wikis, blogs, newsgroups, and more.

The One Minute Commute includes interviews with remote presentation experts Nancy Duarte and Garr Reynolds and profiles successful telecommuting teams from companies like Mozilla, Sun Microsystems, 37signals, CodeSourcery, and the Apache Subversion team. Facial expression expert Paul Ekman, the inspiration for the television show “Lie to Me,” also shares secrets for making remote connections without the benefit of being able to read physical signals.
