I get to sit in my big comfy chair and nudge baby toys aside with my toes while I write the software that runs some of the biggest companies in the world. My daughter knows me. She comes for snuggles in the middle of the day and we go out for walks in the afternoons. I’m always home in time for dinner.
I work with some of the smartest, most passionate, and wonderful people from around the world. They’re in countries like England, Germany, Canada, India, and the United States, but we make a really tight team. I’m learning from people I would have never met in Cambridge.
My team communicates better because we are far-flung. We write more and talk more. When we brain storm our ideas are clearer more complete. Working remotely forces us to do a better job.
I look out my window and watch commuters stuck in their cars. I take another sip of juice and before I get back to work I take a moment to think of the reasons I love telecommuting. Why do you love it? Why did you start telecommuting and why do you keep doing it?
