I just finished reading Esther Schindler’s article Building Your Career in Open Source. Her article was well done (not just because she interviewed me), but it makes me think about a larger issue for telecommuters. Getting hired for a job as a teleworkers means building trust ahead of time. If you’re in the high-tech industry then open source is a really incredible way to build your reputation.
Many people shy away from open source because they don’t write code, but open source projects need testers, writers, organizers, designers, and marketers too. If you’re looking for a job or need to build your reputation open source projects are a great way to do it.
